A Slice of Maruca's Tomato Pie

A Slice of Maruca's Tomato Pie.
Maruca's Tomato Pies has had various locations.
Once upon a time on South Olden Avenue in East Trenton and
for many years (and still counting) on the Boardwalk at
Seaside Heights are amongst them:)

Here is part of the Maruca's Family Story from their
website:

It all started back in 1950 in Trenton, NJ where four
brothers – Anthony, Pasquale, Joseph, and Dominick Maruca
– realized after their father’s untimely death there was
no real future in working the coal mines as he had for so
many years. They wanted to create a business with a real
future, but little did they know just how successful they
would be in standing the test of time.
The Maruca family decided to turn their love of food into
a business, and with Anthony’s leadership and guidance soon
opened their first family-run pizza shop in their hometown.
A few years later, the family opened the first of many
successful pizza shops at the Jersey shore on the famous
Seaside boardwalk, and began an unprecedented run of
extraordinary popularity that continues to this very day.

Hi Mack: My brother Lou and I were running the bowling alleys above Maruca's tomato pie store on So. Olden Ave. just about the same time. We got to know Tony and Spike Maruca pretty well and their business was a big help to ours. Everyone in their store would hear the sound of bowling pins and decide to come up and play a few games. Their tomato pies were outstanding for a place outside the Burg and I knew they would get much bigger in the future. Regards, Ralph

I remember as a kid I'd go with my parents and visit George Kramer(Trenton's Bagel King). I'd go around the corner on S Olden Ave and have the the best sausage pie in the world.

Maruca's on Olden Ave. was the "joint" that many of the working musicians would go to after bars closed on Friday and Saturday nights. Not sure I could handle a sausage pie eaten at 2:30am these days...

In the late '50's & early '60's my brother and I would go to Maruca's every Friday and share a pie. Plain was 80 cents and sausage was $1.00. Best tomato pies I ever ate.

I have lived in Raleigh, NC now for 21 years, but every time we make it back to NJ we always travel to the Seaside boardwalk for a Maruca's pie or three. Still the best.
