South Clinton Avenue at the Roebling Factory Complex. It was
the Eiffel Tower of the Burg. It always makes me think "home
in a few minutes". God Bless The Old Burg :)

Going down the shore? Go get some ice! This always was
a cool looking building and has been made into condos
but they have preserved the Ice House sign painted on
the outside of it:)

Without the Roeblings there would never have been the
Burg we all knew. The factory was mostly closed in my
Burg era but its great to know they built the
Brooklyn Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge among the
many others they constructed:)

drew many of our ancestors from across the sea onto a ship
and to Ellis Island and then a train to the Trenton Train
Station and then a Trolly or Cab or Walk to the Burg:)

The Leaning Tower, we had That Thing Above The Road.
To me it always means "Almost Home" :)

They covered the bricks (on Swan Street) with blacktop
sometime in the mid-70s(?). Now, at the corner of Swan
and Whittaker, the blacktop is broken and some of the
bricks are visible.

It's strange to think that the ice house was converted
to condos!!!

Also...some time in the mid-70s, there was an ammonia
leak (refrigerant system) at ice house. the Swan st
residents had to be evacuated. Us kids being rather
curious and stupid, walked over to see what was
happening. we were across the street from the ice
house loading platform and got a snoot full of ammonia
gas, which made us cough and gag like crazy. we got of
there dang quick!!! That was a learning experience!!!
LOL!!!

Griffith Electric with the Factory across the street, South
Trenton. The Factory has been torn down and there is an
Arena here now but that took many years to do. There was always
a factory across the street in my day:)

This was listed as such in the 50s according to
my records and still says that on the building.
I must confess I never noticed this place ever until
I took its picture a few days ago. Anybody know about
this place?

It was closed for good when these pictures were taken
in the late 1970s. This is South Clinton Avenue in
the Burg. No Roebling Factory and no Burg the way
we all loved it. It brought many of our Burg
ancestors here:)
