A Late Summer Blue Sky over Swan Street, The Burg

A Late Summer Blue Sky over Swan Street, The Burg
This picture was taken yesterday afternoon.
Brando who lived near here says he remembers when this
was brick surface. On the right side of the street you
can see part of the brick wall of what was once The Ice
House. You can see Roebling Factory at Hudson Street in
the distance:)

Hi again Mack: I recall buying blocks of ice at the ice
house in the old days. I think the blocks were 10 or 25
cents each. They would lay the ice across your front
bumper and you would hope it stayed there by the time
you got home. Most of the time we got our ice from our
regular ice man. The ice men sold ice in the summer and
coal in the winter.

So the city just paved over the herringbone bricks? That
lasted a few months, didn't it?
This was my way home from THS, in the snow, in the rain,
in the heat and humidity. We tried to see if there were
any available bottles at the Coke bottling plant almost
every day.

Mack, I remember the Ice Man coming to deliver ice to the bars near my grandmother's house when I was a wee JoeyZ. All the kids would ask for a piece of ice in the summer and he always gave us the chips or pieces that broke off. Good days.
