Immaculate Conception Church, Chestnut Avenue, The Burg
Our family church for most of our Burg days. We typically
did the sunday 6PM mass that went until about 6:50 PM.
In zummbertime, it seemed the daylight lasted forever and
even after sunday mass we might get some baseball in over
at Franklin or Wetzel. But when the days grew shorter as
fall turned to winter it was pitch black even before sunday
mass started. After mass we would often go to Cumberland
Farms next to Zips Streakhouse. As we would walk thru the
front door of 824 Liberty Street, home, there were often
late NFL games coming to a dramatic end. Often the winning
team in these dramatic games was the Oakland Raiders..
maybe thats why I became a fan of them.
I remember how busy the full church parking lot was at the
end of mass, in addition to all the folks who attended
church by walking to it.
