Thanks so much for posting these photos and memories - it's
really great to see. This is the house I grew up in and was
indeed, Thatcher-Lloyd Funeral Home! My grandparents, Richard
(Dick) and Florence Lloyd owned the family business. My father
- their oldest child, Phil, was the last to operate it.
He passed away 10 years ago. My uncle, Bruce Lloyd, is Phil's
younger brother and did teach science at Trenton High for
many years. There were 3 kids - Linda Lloyd is the youngest
and they did attend Calvary Baptist Church. Again, thanks for
the nostalgia. It's good to know they are remembered well. ,
The business goes back 1 more generation to Florence's father
(my great-grandfather), Ralph Thatcher. He was licensed as a
funeral director as early as 1902 and probably even earlier
(I remember seeing an old license of his with that year).
I believe the original location of the funeral home was 958
S. Broad and Ralph had 986 commissioned to be built - it was
finished in the late 20's or early 30's.
Thank You So Much for this Karen.
And God Bless The Old Burg:)

Hi Mack: I recall Thatcher's Funeral Home on Hudson Street during my early Burg days. It was one of the few business places in the Burg, along with the pharmacy on Hudson and Elmer, that were not run by Italians. Have a nice day.
I believe I went to TCHS with your uncle Bruce.

Worked with Bruce at THS and Phil was also a friend of mine. I had the pleasure of working on a number of School Board campaigns with their Dad.
Hi Karen, I have know your uncle Bruce for many years and have I've been trying to locate him. The last time I saw Bruce was at my mom's funeral 9 years ago. Would u please be so kind to e-mail me his number.
Thanks

Hi Karen,
I am a long lost relative of yours from the Thatcher side. Ralph Thatcher was my grandmother's brother, I actually have his death notice from the newspaper. My grandmother was Elizabeth Alma (Thatcher) Scheeler from Trenton, NJ. My grandmother's funeral was held at the Lloyd-Thatcher Funeral home in 1975 and I was going to contact the funeral home to get a copy of her death certificate when I saw your blog. I was just at my grandmother's house at 52 Lillian Avenue, which is less than a mile from the funeral home. I found out on Zillow that her old house was for sale and could not resist going to see it. The real estate man let us in so we could have one last look before it is sold. We have not been there in 40 years but the house is still beautiful. If you want to contact me, my email address is LBHall1947@gmail.com.

THANK YOU FOR THE POST. I REMEMBER PLAYING WITH LINDA. WE PLAYED IN A HEARSE IN THE ALLEY BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME. SHE EVEN TOOK US, MY SISTER SHARON AND ME INTO THE HOUSE AND SHOWED US THE EMBALMING ROOM. SHE PROBABLY WOULD NOT REMEMBER BUT IT LEFT A LARGE IMPRESSION ON ME. I WAS IN SCHOOL WITH HER IN HARRISON SCHOOL ON GENESEE ST. ONE OF US GOT A BUMP ON THE HEAD FROM THE DOOR OF THE HEARSE.
