The MacNicoll Family Dog, Smdel, 824 Liberty Street, The Burg
The MacNicoll Family Dog, Smdel
824 Liberty Street, The Burg
This was our family dog Smdel. He was named after all of the
MacNicoll Children.. Shari, Michael, David, Edwin, and Linda.
My sister Sandra was born after we got him so his official
name became Smdels. This was my Mom and Dads idea:) I called
him shmett...yes even dogs get a nickname in the Burg.
He was a Cocker-Spaniel, an English Hunting Dog. We would
take him to Washingtons Crossing to run around and he would
for 3 hours...then come home and be a snoring ball of fir
in the kitchen until the next day. He was a very tough guy
behind our fence and dogs 3 times his size would get barked
at furiously. He also knew how to dig under that fence and
run away.. he only did this like 200 times...and he was
always within 1 or 2 blocks of the house when we found him.
This is him in 1973. He is a mere youth here...If I remember
right we got him around 1972 and he lived until like 1988.
He is not feeling athletic in this picture.

His name was Cassidy when we got him but he became "Ralph" ... after Jackie Gleason and I have no ideas why. Perhaps because when we get them as pups we give them a noble strong name and when they get Goofy ... we ...
