701 Cass Street, South Trenton

701 Cass Street, South Trenton.
Once upon a time this was Quinn's Bar.
I thought this also was the Red Carpet at one time but
Sax thinks that was nearby. I change my mind and agree
with Sax, the Red Carpet was nearby.

Quinnies...my first Shirley Temple and pickled egg..sitting right up to the bar. This place really smelled like a corner, neighborhood bar...and I've been in a whole lot of bars! I may be wrong, but I think the Red Carpet was on the opposite corner from Quinn's.

You went to Quinnies if you weren't Hungarian. Conversely, if you were Hungarian it was Parichy's or Gliba's.

Sammy DeLia, the Broad St. tomato pie guy, used to spend some days here. While finding his way back to the store before opening he'd frequently park on somebody's porch on Hudson Ave and fire up a trademark Parodi cigar. One day we were chatting. "Hey, know why these cigars are bent? 'Cause they're dipped in S#!7!"

This was but one of the lessons learned by growing up in the Burg.
