325 Jersey Street, South Trenton

325 Jersey Street, South Trenton.
Once upon a time this was Atlantic Mills Department Store.
This is a new picture of it:)

A huge shopping trip to Atlantic Mills was a twice a year tradition when we were kids. There were 5 of us, so in the summer it was $1-$2 "sunsuits" and "pedal-pushers" (capri pants) for us girls and similarly inexpensive shorts and T-shirts for the boys and bathing suits for all. Then in fall, it was long pants and sweaters and heavy coats. The trunk of our car would be jam-packed with bags and bags of clothes!

atlantic mills was a great place to go as a kid.

some memories...

the very steep two-stage ramp to the basement level

the funky green and pink wall paint. i think that since the lead paint factory was nearby (hancock and cass), the mill got a discount on the paint. (just a theory)

asbestos was everywhere! it covered all the exposed pipes and ceilings, and some walls from the building's factory days. i think people from south trenton became immune to asbestos-related lung problems after a few visits to atlantic mills. LOL!!!
