Junior Four (Dunn) Trenton
Junior Four, Dayton Street, Trenton NJ. Renamed Grace A Dunn
now but Forever Junior Four to many Burg folks including me.
Now you kids...no smoking by the fence on Lalor Street.
No waving to your friends at lunch through the windows in
Shop class. No clapping when plates get dropped in the lunchroom:)
No sneaking past the cash register in the lunchroom with your
lunchcard unpunched so your friend can use it. No throwing
paper planes at our substitute teachers. No taking potted
plants from the window sill and putting them on the teachers
desk before he/she arrives (and why is it when I ask who did
this the entire class remains silent?).
What fun we had in those days long ago.
Remember?

I remember when we had gym class outside for softball. I would always play outfield so I could smoke and I might add, never got caught. I did get caught waving to my sister across the rose garden by my Math. teacher.
SC
Yes the Rose Garden :))
I remember that.
On the subject of Cigarettes,
over in Trenton High Mr Palermo
lectured us on the subject of
smoking one day. He had to step
out of the class for a moment
during this lecture.
He had a skull on his desk
(this was a science class).
We decided to put a cigarette
in the skulls mouth.
Mr Palermo was a good teacher
and a nice guy and had a good
sense of humor.
He couldnt help laughing at this
and then make a stern face at
us. On days to follow chalk
was replaced by cigarettes at the
blackboard. A cigarette was taped
to the clock...things like this.
He got a kick out of it all:)
Mr Palermo was balding so one
day a classmate (Guiermo it was
YOU) brought in a wig for us to
use for our antics. We put the
wig on the skull. Mr Palermo
burst out laughing when he
saw it...gave us that playful
stern looking face..laughed again
and then put it on.
Heck I am laughing as I type this.
Great old Burg days:)))
Anyone remember the Operettas we put on every year? I remember doing a sax duet with Jerry Redd..White Christmas during auditorium...
Does anyone remember the name of the store across the street from Junior 4. Kids would go there in the morning before school to buy soda and tasty cakes.

Who remembers standing in line outside Jr 4, in the hot summer waiting for the doors to open so we could use the pool. The ONLY pool in S Trenton. Only the 1st 25 got in
And the boys had to swim naked! You girls ever peek???
We used to try to swim under the wall that divided the pool. Wore glasses then, couldn't see. Have contact lenses now;)
Barbara, we must have known each other! (I'll be 60 come July)..When I was 10, we moved to Marshall Avenue which was off of Lalor near Broad. My dad couldn't understand why I couldn't go to Jr.4, but instead had to take a bus to Grice Middle. I do remember going to Jr4, in the summer, for swimming lessons. I also remember playing jacks outside waiting to go in. I ALSO remember stepping on a jack and getting a really bad heel infection!!..Guess a piece of metal got embedded in my skin..yikes..yep, it was bad..
Rosemary, We all knew each other in the Burg, we were family then. I turned 60 on December 28th. I'm sure when enough info comes up in the blogs, we'll figure it out. I figured out who Saxman is, and we haven seen each other in 100 years.
Rosie Rudner typing...Mateo Giammario...music/orchestra
Fred Staudenmayer...gym along with Mr Toft...Ralph Binz...music/band - my arch-enemy carried on to THS...
Fred Ketterer..saw him too much in A9. Anyone out there remember when someone hung a dead cat in the doorway of Bessie Hunt's class??
