Springtime on Mott Street, The Burg

Springtime on Mott Street, The Burg

I can smell delicious food cooking and hear folks speaking
Italian and hear a Dean Martin song just looking at
pictures like this:)

THE STREET LOOKS DIFFERENT MAC, FROM THE TIME I WAS BORN AT 104. THE TREES GIVE IT A VILLA PARK LOOK. GOD BLESS THE OLD BURG.

Hi Ralph:)
I think the city got money to do the trees in many places in the 80s and 90s:))

In the 1940's the cities spent a lot of money on trees and the Sycamore was the #1 choice; it's rapid growth made for fast shade. But the wood of a Sycamore is weak and limbs broke easily and many complained about the bark shedding and those nasty balls that fell providing us kids with "ammo" for fierce fighting.

The 70's gave rise to the Bartlet Pear as the tree of choice for urban planners. No fruit but pretty white flowers and again good growth and easy maintenance. Well easy till they hit the 30 year mark. Again very weak in the wind and caused lots of damage. Twenty years ago I watched my neighbor spend a fortune on them. With the snow of October, there is not a single tree of the dozen standing.

Trenton put in tons of the Bartlet Pear since the state was funding and had a lot of say in the projects under highway improvement funds. I worked on a few of those jobs in the early 70's.
