A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

IT'S ME AGAIN MAC....I USED TO STAND ON THAT CORNER BY THE BANK IN THE EARLY 30'S AND PEDDLE THE TRENTON TIMES FOR 2 CENTS EACH. WE PAID 1 CENT EACH AND HOPED PEOPLE WOULD GIVE YOU A NICKEL AND SAY KEEP THE CHANGE. THINGS WERE TOUGH IN THOSE DAYS AND NEARBY WAS A PUBLIC REST ROOM TO HELP ON OCCASSIONS. HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT ESSEX CAR WITH THE RUNNING BOARDS. THAT WAS A VERY BUSY CORNER WITH THE MAIN POST OFFICE AND BANK. THE LETTER CARRIERS AND TRAFFIC COPS IN THOSE DAYS HAD TO PUT UP WITH A LOT OF BAD WEATHER. OH WELL, I'M LUCKY TO BE ON A POST OFFICE PENSION IN THESE DAYS OF BAD DEPRESSION. REGARDS AND BEST WISHES.
Hi Ralph:)
I love this comment and glad the picture brought back memories. Good ole downtown Trenton back in the day:)))
YOU KNOW, MAC....THE CARS IN THE EARLY 30'S MUST NOT HAVE HAD TRUNKS. I SEE THE SPARE TIRES ATTACHED TO THE BACK. DOWNTOWN TRENTON WAS REALLY A TRIP FOR WE KIDS IN THE BURG AND I LOVED THE 5 AND 10 CENT STORES BUT COULD NEVER FIGURE OUT WHY THEY CALLED THEM FIVE AND DIMES. MAYBE CAUSE THE HOT DOGS WERE A DIME AND THE ROOT BEER WERE A NICKEL.
