As kids at Saint Hedwig's it was a major deal that a Catholic was running for President. The motor route was along Olden from Mercer Airport so we waited in front of the school. It was a very long wait since he was behind.

The issue they said was as a Catholic he was beholden to the Pope and could not even declare war without Papal permission.

I remember "Give Em' Hell" Harry Truman coming down by State and Olden when I was real small.

HI MAC ....I RECALL SHAKING HANDS WITH DWITH EISENHOWER IN THE 50'S. WE WERE STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND I RAN OVER TO SEE HIM AND HE GLADLY SPOKE TO ME AND ASKED IF I WAS A VETERAN. EVERYONE I KNEW WHO SERVED UNDER HIM HAD NOTHING BUT PRAISE FOR HIM. BEST REGARDS.
