Dr. Joseph Gian-Grasso
Dr. Joseph Gian-Grasso was born on 408 Hudson Street in
the Burg. June 3, 1916, the feast day of Saint Anthony,
thus his middle name. In 1918 his family moved to 115
Butler Street and that was his home until he moved to
where most of us remember him being, 343 Hamilton Avenue.
He Attended Saint Joachim's School, Immaculate Conception
High (AKA Trenton Catholic)for 2 years, then graduated from
Trenton High. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania
and finally the University of New York Medical School where
he graduated in 1943. During his college years he worked
as a bell hop at the Hotel Stacy-Trent. After 2 years as a
resident intern at Saint Francis Hospital in Trenton and
2 years in the US Navy, he joined the hospital's surgical
staff and held that position for 25 years. From 1972 on
he was a staff member emeritus in family practice.
Dr. Gian-Grasso married Helen Marie Brenna in 1945 and
they had 5 children. It was very nice to have folks in
the Burg like Dr Gian Grasso around back in the day.
How lucky we all were to be from the Burg:)
