Lesko's wasn't the best pie in town back in the 1960's but the one thing they had going God bless them, WAS that they would deliver during the week anytime after noon when other places were closed. They would drive clear across to the Brunswick and Olden area. To a hungry 13 year old that was a pie that may well have had the Papal Impramatur, manna sent from the heavens in the form of a Lesko's delivery van.

And just when you want to draw a line there was Maruca's original place next to the Olden Theater but how can you include them and forget Louie's right across the street by Floyd's Diner.

There was another pie joint right by the Greenwood Theater but the name escapes me at the moment.

Mister Schuster was a great guy and for a German to survive in Chambersburg he had to be good.

Occasionally he would stop by the booth and ask if we had tried his mustard pie? Now the Germans and mustard are like a .... well they may well have invented the stuff, but in my world mustard is what goes on a dog or corned beef.

Of course to be polite we had to say "well gosh, no" and then suffer through the concoction but it made him so happy.

"Straight up" that old Kraut made a pretty mean pie, that was my wife's favorite place. His other real job was working at Bliss Hall over at Trenton State College. They were all a wonderful family that was part of the fabric of the Burg. His daughter was a pretty girl with a great smile and I think she became a nurse at Saint Francis?

HAVE TO AGREE WITH SKIP, LESKO'S PIES WERE NOT THE GREATEST, I ORDERED ONE AND WAITED 3 HOURS FOR IT TO ARRIVE ON HOME AVE. NEVER ATE ANOTHER ONE. LOUIS'PIES ON OLDEN RIGHT BEFORE THE BRIDGE MADE A GOOD PIE AND A GOOD PLACE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT.

Hi Skip and JoeZ:)

Half this list is unknown to me. I was 9 years old most of 1972. I do not recall ever having anything from Leskos:)
