Benjamin Light Furniture

Many of the older folks dealt with Bennie Light Furniture.
They could buy items "on the books" and a representative
would come by the house every Saturday to collect a
dollar or two until item was paid off. Of course, we
also had milkman Joe Toots and breadman who would stop
by every week pick up payment for goods delivered
throughout the week. Interesting to note that our doors
were never locked and we just left money for them on
front end table. Never a problem!

HI MAC AND TOM....BENNY AND SAMMY LIGHT WERE TWO OF THE MANY PEOPLE WHO PROFIDED THEIR PRODUCTS DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION YEARS AND COLLECTED ONLY WHAT YOU COULD AFFORD TO PAY THEM EACH WEEK. ANOTHER WAS OUR MILK MAN, WHO LEFT MILK EVERY DAY WITHOUT GETTING PAID UNTIL THINGS GOT BETTER. LAMPERT DAIRY WERE THE FIRST TO GET PAID WHEN MY FATHER WENT BACK TO WORK. PEOPLE IN CHAMBERSBURG IN THOSE TOUCH YEARS STUCK TOGETHER AND THINGS TURNED OUT FOR THE BEST. I SURE RECALL THE EARLY YEARS IN THE BURG AND VILLA PARK. REGARDS.
