Some Random Burg Items.
I often thought the chimney on Cummings Avenue for the laundramat
there was the tallest item in the Burg but someone has pointed
out the water tower on Emory Avenue and Hudson Street was taller.
I agree with that.
The water tower on Emory Avenue and Hudson Street is no longer
there. It was torn down in the 1990s and now there are 2 semis
on that lot. Its still odd to me when going down Hudson Street
not to see the ole water tower where it once stood.
This leads to what were the steepest hills in the Burg area.
I say area because I cannot think of a hill in the Burg itself.
The 2 places I think of that had hills were the Atlantic Mills
parking lot on Jersey Street in South Trenton, and the
cemeteries on Cedar Lane in Hamilton Township.
When I was young I remember many Burg alleys were gravel. One
year suddenly the city was paving them all over the place.
Perhaps the city got federal money or state money to get it
done. Do you remember when the alleys were gravel?
I remember Pep's Steak House on Liberty Street had pizza
rolls. My Grandmom would go to bingo at the Ukrainian
Church on Adeline Street on Tuesdays and get home about
9:45 PM and buy us all pizza rolls. Pep's also had very
good cheesesteaks and if Grandma won she might buy us
some of them. To many folks in the Burg, their Grandma
was "Nona". God Bless The Old Burg:)

HI MAC.....SPEAKING OF HILLS, THE ONE ON CHAMBERS CROSSING OVER STATE WAS PRETY STEEP. I RECALL A WINTER DAY WHEN IT WAS ICEY AND I STARTED TO SKID ALL THE WAY DOWN. VERY LUCKY THERE WERE NO CARS GOING THE OTHER WAY OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A BAD ACCIDENT. THAT'S WHEN I STARTED TO USE CHAINS ON ICEY DAYS. BEST REGARDS.
Hi Ralph:)
Yes thats one..also the Olden
Avenue Bridge area over the railroad tracks is a serious incline...which makes me think every time there is ice and snow the city goes there first or at least I hope they do:)
Life was simpler then, or was it our youth.
Hi Bob:) Maybe a bit of both:)
