Doctor Mario Costantini
Doctor Mario Costantini
Mario was born and raised in the Chambersburg section of Trenton
and attended public school in both Trenton and Hamilton and
graduated from Hamilton High in 1936. He went on to attend the
Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, from which
he graduated with a Doctor’s Degree in Optometry in 1940. Upon
graduation, he set up his practice in Trenton, with a branch
office in Bristol, Pa. In January of 1943, Mario enlisted in
the Army, where he served for three years as an optometrist
stationed in San Antonio, Texas. Upon his discharge from the
service in 1946, he returned to his practice in Trenton.
In 1952, Dr. Costantini married his wife, Blythe Baker, and
purchased their first home in Levittown, Pa. Three years later,
in 1955, their first son, Frank, was born. Less than a year
later they moved back to Trenton to a home on 468 Hamilton Ave.
where they lived and Mr. Costantini had his practice for the
next 45 years. In 1961 their second son, Barry, was born.
During his 55 years of practice he held positions as Secretary
and President of the Mercer County Optometric Association, the
New Jersey Optometric Association and the Academy of Optometry.
He spent his entire career helping to promote the profession
of optometry.
Aside from being a lifetime member of Roman Hall, Mario was an
active member of several local organizations. For many years he
was an avid bowler, sometimes bowling in as many as three leagues
per week. He participated in many county and state bowling
tournaments. Mario also loved playing golf and spent many years
touring the Central Jersey golf courses, from which he made
many lifelong friends. Mario was also a member and past president
of the Kent AA, a member of the Fulton Soldiers and Sailors
Club in Trenton and a former parishioner of Our Lady of the
Angels, St. Joachim’s Church in Trenton.

Hi Mack: We knew Dr. Costantini very well. He not only was
our eye doctor but as a bowler he bowled at our lanes very
often, He would be about my age and his activity in sporting
and social club memberships were well known. His home on
Hamilton Ave. was another one on doctors row. As a bowler
he never had a complaint, as is common among bowlers. He is
a credit to his profession, religion and activites throughout
Chambersburg. Best regards.

I tripped over your site just doing some family research, Mario was my step Uncle, I remember him as my eye doctor when I was a child. It's been very interesting finding bits and pieces of my ancestors, thank you.
