If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Did anyone know a Martha Applegate that worked there.
Hi Pat P.
According to my Trenton City Directories..
Mrs Martha Applegate was working here at Schultzes on 497 Lalor Street in 1957.
She lived at 245 North Warren
Street. It must have been an apartment as 245 North Warren was
The Whistle Stop Restaurant owned
by Charles Bowker.
In 1963 She was working at Manuka's
Restaurant on 230 East State Street.
A blurb I found about Manukas...
For a couple of months during the 1960s, lunchtime crowds strolling along East State Street between the Federal Building and Stockton Street were no doubt startled to see Thomas E. Dewey.
The world-famous politician, lawyer, four-term N.Y. governor and twice Republican candidate for president was casually walking to lunch with three or four homburg-hatted fellow attorneys. Dewey (and his entourage) were making their way to a nondescript little sandwich shop called Manuka 's on East State where he enjoyed a modest lunch every day during the several weeks he led a team of lawyers in a major trial involving the steel industry.
Martha may have met and served the world famous Mr. Dewey.
You are terrific . . how do you get all this info? I found out that Martha was my biological mother and I only have limited info on her. Thanks again!!
Thank You Pat P.
I put this together with a few city directories and a check on local newspapers:)
I may have some pictures I would like on MToW but don't know how to post them ~ how do I do this?
