Hi Mack, When I was growing up down the sreet on Emory Ave,
this was St. Mark's Lutheran Church. It became a senior citizen
center after the congregation moved out to White Horse Ave.

UPDATE 2:
Brando adds :
in the 70s, it was simply known as "the center".
pool tables, ping pong, basketball, etc.

around 1976(?) some of the kids, myself included, along with
the staff created the most awesome halloween haunted house ever
in the center basement. a sliding board to get down the stairs,
fog (dry ice in water), cob webs, candles, black lights, loud scary
noises, etc.. monsters too...frankenstein, the mummy, the
werewolf chained behind an iron gate, and more...
i was quasimodo, the hunchback of notre dame, sitting on the
kitchen counter operating a large glow-in-the-dark flying ghost
on a clothes line. we did not have a church bell for the hunchback
to ring. what a boss time we had!

When I was in Black Band for Sports Night 1967, we practiced here a couple times. Chet Passerella was the band leader, Derek Van Eaton was in the band as well as Mike Kremper. (Jacobs Creek) Those were the days...The last Sports Night before the riots in 1967.
