Noel Vento Talks About His Days As A Burg Kid Attending Caroll
Robbins Elementary School

Mack,
I went to Carroll Robbins, known as Robbins' School for K thru
6th grade. Graduated in the spring of '63. The school is on Tyler
Street between Chestnut and Hudson. Right behind Brenna's Funeral
home. I remember my kindergarten teacher, Miss Camera, was also my
sisters' ballet teacher. She had a dance studio on Hamilton around
the corner from the school. My first grade teacher was Mrs Frazier.
Sometimes my neighbor, Mrs Elenor Marizzi was a substitute teacher.
For second grade I had Mrs Annich, who was the wife of the Pastor
at Bethany Church. Third grade was Mrs Engler, fourth was Miss
Spencer, Fifth was Mrs Burns, and sixth grade I had Mrs Kent.
The principal was Mrs Burkert. The school secretary was Mrs Connors,
and the school nurse was Miss Kenezne. Strange thing here was that
my father, Dr Vento was the school doctor. He gave all of us
physicals. He was also the Dr. at Junior Two. Mr Frazier was the
teacher who managed the safety patrol. I was a patrol boy for 2
years 5th and 6th grade. My post was the intersection of Monmouth
and Tyler Sts. I learned to play the saxophone and how to swim
(at The YMCA in town) while I was a student at Robbins. On Mondays
the Catholic kids left early and went to St Joachim's for Communion
and Confirmation instruction. One time as a Patrol Boy. I remember
taking a pack of matches from a younger student and throwing them
in the sewer. Mark Harding told Mr Frazier what I had done and they
awarded me the Gold Badge. They presented it to me in front of the
whole school. I remember thinking it was not that big a deal. But
I felt pretty special. Many of my classmates went on to Junior
Two and then to Trenton High.
Thank You so much for this Noel. Part of the fun of doing this
blog is finding out what folks were up to in all parts of the
Burg and all schools that had Burg kids in them matter so its
a thrill to have a shout out to good ole Carroll Robbins:)
God Bless The Ole Burg.

Now I'm convinced age is settling in. It wasn't Mr Frazier, it was Mr Feldenzer. It's amazing what you can't remember after 50 years! My hat's off to Ralph. His memory is clear as a bell! Its always great to read his posts...
....I WANT TO THANK NOEL FOR THE KIND WORDS, HE KNEW MY BROTHER CHUCK THE DOCTOR WHO PASSED AWAY AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. I'M TRYING TO RELATE EVENTS THAT HE WAS INTERESTED IN AND HOW HE OVERCAME THE MANY PROBLEMS HE HAD IN BECOMING A DOCTOR. BEST REGARDS.
