A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

....I CAN RECALL MISS INGLESBY LOOKING FOR PERFORMERS FOR VARIOUS STAGE PRESENTATIONS. MICHAEL KOCHAK WAS ONE SHE FOUND AND I'M SURE ERNIE KOVACS WAS AROUND FOR SOME PLAYS. I WAS IN A FEW THINGS BUT I HAD STAGE FRIGHT. I WAS MORE INTERESTED IN SPORTS AND WAS A CLOCK WATCHER IN CLASS. MY FAVORITE TEACHERS WERE THOSE THAT GAVE LESS HOMEWORK. IN LATTER LIFE I WISH I HAD PAID MORE ATTENTION TO MY SCHOOL WORK.
the pic of the balcony brings back this memory to me:
First day of school..1957 going into 9th grade..."the guys' (big 9th graders now) sitting in the balcony front row hanging over the wall...I'm about right above the clock..Joe Klesken, Barry Cray, Teddy Wood, Adam Mazur, Walt Szul, Julius (Jules) Sombati, etc, etc...We are watching the poor 8th and 7th graders walking in - checking out the girl pool becoming available...I see this great looking girl with a filled-out yellow sweater (tight) and long hair, and I spurt out..."I'm going after her...gotta' feel those up close!"
Then I felt a slap in the back of my head..."hey asshole, that's my little sister Pat", says Jules Sombati...I said, "she's cuter than you..introduce me". He did and I dated her for the rest of the year...the Sombati's lived on Third St.
A couple of secrets about the auditorium most students did not know unless they where in the music curriculum or on stage craft....
A trap door behind the stage lead to a room filled with props and other interesting items...and a good place to cut class!!
In the back of the auditorium (lobby area) there was a secret room off to the right (looking from the stage)...another good "hiding place" and perfect for hanging out with certain girls;);).....Joe Klesken, Barry Cray and me found it by accident...but used it regulary.
