The Burg Area in 1932

The Burg Area in 1932

Flipping thru the pages of a Trenton City Directory of
1932 I took note of these items.

61 Conrad Street was called The French-American Bakery.
A Barbero was living there and it became Barbero's Bakery.
On 269 Hamilton Avenue was The Roma Baking Company.
At 408-410 Roebling Avenue across from what was then
Washington School was The Venice Restaurant.
At 112 Butler Street was Papa's Tomato Pies.
At 303.5 Hudson Street was a restaurant called "The
Hollywood Coffee Pot".
The Bank at Liberty Street and South Broad Street was
known as the The Chambersburg Trust Company.
At 860 Chambers Street was The Chambersburg Wholesale
Fruit Market.
At 1337 Hamilton Avenue was The Weigel Chevrolet Car
Dealer.

Our little stroll thru the Burg area of 1932 is done.
I hope you enjoyed it and hope some of you might remember
one or more of these items.
Oh, By the way, I mentioned no Bars as they were against
the law still in 1932..it was prohibition.

HI MAC....IN 1932 WE WERE LIVING ON BERT AVE. BUT STILL
BOUGHT OUR TOMATO PIES AT PAPA'S ON BUTLER ST."IT WAS A
VERY GOOD YEAR" LIKE SINATRA SANG. I RECALL ALL THE
BUSINESSES YOU MENTION AND THEN SOME. IT WAS JUST THE
BEGINNING OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION AND THINGS WERE STILL
PRETTY GOOD. I JUST STARTED AT JR.4 AND WAS GETTING
USED TO THE LONG WALK FROM VILLA PARK. MY OTHER SCHOOL,
HAMILTON, WAS JUST DOWN THE STREET, SO JR.4 WAS LIKE
MILES AWAY. IT WAS ALSO THE TIME THAT WETZEL FIELD WAS
MY SECOND HOME. THANKS FOR THE MEMORY.
