838 Genesee Street, Franklin Park

838 Genesee Street, Franklin Park
Once upon a time this was Ludwig Schmid Art Cermamic
Studio according to my records. I often passed by this
in my Junior Four days of 1974-1977:)

HI MAC....WE LIVED ONE DOOR AWAY FROM THE STUDIO IN 1944 WHEN I WAS INDUCTED INTO THE NAVY. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER MOVED BACK TO 13 HOWELL ST.WITH HER PARENTS WHILE I WAS IN THE SERVICE. I RECEIVED $79 A MONTH AS A SECOND CLASS PETTY OFFICER AND $59 OF THAT WENT TO MY WIFE. I HARDLY DREW ANY PAY FOR THE 2 YEARS CAUSE MOST OF THE THINGS I NEEDED WERE PROVIDED BY THE NAVY. I MENTIONED EARILAR THAT I USED THE MONEY I GOT WHEN I WAS DISCHARGED AS A DOWN PAYMENT ON A NEW HOUSE. BEST REGARDS TO ALL.

Ralph, you were lucky to have made second class PO. When I was in during the late 60's we still were not making much more. Married I would be singing a different song however. I only made E-4 because I refused to extend for an additional five months. You had to have two years remaining to put that extra stripe on and though I passed the exam the thought of extending for a few bucks a month were not an option.
