A Magnificent View of Franklin Park in the 1970s, Franklin Park
A Magnificent View of Franklin Park in the 1970s, Franklin Park
Please visit the Facebook Group Franklin Park to see more
pictures of the place. This was the park as it looked in my
Burg day. I remember when there was a water fountain near
the big boulder, quite a long time ago. One thing the City
of Trenton was always good at was Parks. I see us playing
baseball or football or sitting on the bench or watching
the talent show in summer or getting fed by those city workers.
I see the leaves falling...then the snow...then the sun shining..
and the grass growing again.

HI MAC.....WELL, THAT'S THE WAY IT LOOKED IN THE 1930S ALSO, WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME THERE WHILE I WAS GOING WITH MY GIRLFRIEND FROM HOWELL STREET. WOULD YOU BELIEVE WE WALKED EVERYWHERE. I DID'NT HAVE A CAR UNTIL AFTER WE WERE MARRIED. MY WIFE WON A GAME AT BINGO ONE NIGHT AND WE SPENT THE MONEY ON A 1933 CHEVY FOR 25 DOLLARS. I PAINTED THE CAR WITH A BRUSH AND IT ACTUALLY RAN PRETTY GOOD. GO A HEAD AND LAUGH.
There was little need for a car. The bus stop was only half a block away and you could get anywhere within reason. Mom got tired of it and broke ranks getting her license in about 1962 and bought a 1960 Corvair.
My first car was a 1951 Ford, flathead 239 with an automatic. Got it from a guy in the Salvation Army. $25 dollars; guess he was seeing hard times.
Ralph, they still had common sense and with the Trenton Transit so on time, the car sat and was used only on weekends.
Skipper
Ralph,
Did you know Augie Mazzucco who lived on Howell?
He was a Diesel mechanic at Firless Works. Also a really good friend of my father.
HEY BILL...MY SISTER LAW MARGE, JOE BODNER'S WIFE, SAID HI. SHE'S 89 BUT STILL REMEMBERS EVERYONE IN THE OLD NEIGHBORHOOD. I DID'NT KNOW THAT FELLA ON HOWELL ST. WE LIVED NEXT TO TONY DeFRANK FOR JUST A SHORT WHILE, NEAR LIBERTY. MY WIFE'S FAMILY, THE SZUCS, LIVED THERE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. WE WERE MARRIED THERE AND CAME BACK AFTER I WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE NAVY IN 1946. BEST REGARDS.
Hi Folks:)
File under its a small world..
Where Ralph was on Howell Street
could be literally measured in feet
from our home on Liberty Street in
the Burg later on:)
