Chambersburg Little League Baseball Field, Columbus Park, The Burg

Chambersburg Little League Baseball Field, Columbus Park,
The Burg.
I love getting pictures from different angles of Burg area
places that mattered so much to all of us. This picture was
taken on my most recent Burg picture walk last week:)

...EVERY TIME I SEE PICTURES OF THE BALL FIELD I THINK ABOUT MY DEAR FRIEND TONY FRASCELLA SELLING HOT DOGS IN THE BUILDING BEHIND HOME PLATE. IT WAS JUST ONE OF MANY THINGS HE DID FOR THE CHAMBERSBURG LITTLE LEAGUE.

The clubhouse behind home plate appears to have grown a bit.

Was it first built in the late 50sw or early 60s? Didn't it begin as a single level building where hot dogs were sold? A few years later I think the second story was added.

Since then it looks as though it's about four times larger than the original.

HEY BILL, YOU'RE RIGHT. THAT BUILDING WAS BUILT IN STAGES. THE FIRST FLOOR IS FOR FOOD AND THE SECOND FLOOR FOR OBSERVATION. I'M JUST ASSUMING THAT CAUSE EVERYTIME I VISITED, THE BUILDING WAS BIGGER. I WILL SAY, THEY DID A FINE JOB ON THAT FIELD, COMPARED TO WHAT IT WAS WHEN THEY STARTED.

There was -- and still is? -- a small brick building out beyond the left field bleachers. It was a major big deal if a batter hit one so far out of the field that it hit the "s__t house" as everyone called that building. I'm not sure that any little leaguer ever accomplished this amazing feat, but that was the common expression.
