Blue Skies Over Hudson Street, The Burg
Blue Skies Over Hudson Street, The Burg
This picture was taken last year and the Burg
posed well for it. This is one of the many Burg
places that look almost the same as they did 40
years ago or more. One change is at the far right
of the picture where someone built 2 new Townhouses.
There used to be a Roebling Water Tower there.

Hi Mac....I always called that part of the the Burg as a big parking lot for DeLorenzo's Tomatoe Pies. Chick used to tell me, if they want a DeLorenzo Pie bad enough, they'll find a spot. One of the benefits of living in Chambersburg is being able to walk to many different places of business. Regards.
Hi Ralph:)
Chick was right of course.
There usually was some parking available here on the Roebling Factory side as you passed Emory
Avenue:)
One or two of the houses on the left used to have fig trees in the back yard. Many places in the Burg had them. In the Winter time, they were bundled-up with carpets and an old bucket capped the structure. They looked a lot like dinosaur necks, which we kids made note of each time we passed by.
If I'm not mistaken one of those places was home to a master wine maker, in the days before it was fully legal. My father was known to sample the liquid evidence, from time to time. ;-)
The wine grapes came from down the street at Mazilli's Market.
.....THOSE WINE GRAPES FROM MAZELLI'S USED TO BE LINED UP OUT FRONT OF MANY HOUSES ON MOTT STREET. I THINK YOU WERE ALLOWED TO GIVE THE WINE AWAY BILL, BUT YOU COULB'NT SELL IT. THEY PLAYED CARDS CALLED TREA SETH, MEANING THREE SEVENS IN ITALIAN. MY FATHER'S WINE WAS CONSIDERED VERY GOOD BY HIS FRIENDS.
my old block!!!
italian card game..."scopa"...comes with lots of arguing!
....I GOT A KICK OUT OF THOSE ITALIAN CARD GAMES. THE OUTCOME WOULD DECIDE WHO GETS THE WINE AND WHO DOES'NT. AT THE END MOST OF THE PLAYERS WERE LOADED. I WILL SAY THIS ABOUT THOSE GUYS, THEY HARDLY WENT TO SOLOONS. MOST MADE THEIR OWN WINE AND ANTISETTE AND DID THEIR DRINKING AT HOME. I RECALL MOST OF MY DAD'S FRIENDS ALL AROUND THE BURG. REGARDS.
