Wetzel Field, The Alley we often came thru, Villa Park.

Wetzel Field, The Alley we often came thru, Villa Park.
This site gave me a bit of a chill. I have not seen this
in many years. In the year 1971 or 1972 Sunoco had a
NFL Football Sticker Book. Sunoco was 2 blocks from here
and we used to ride our bikes there and the folks at the
gas station would give stickers for that book.
This is the Liberty Street and Chambers Street enterance:)

All those years in Trenton and I never knew where Wetzel Field was till about a year ago. It's just tucked in behind homes and was always a mystery.

.....It's amazing today how anyone cannot know where Wetzel Field is located. In my day Wetzel Field was my second home. That alley was where we hung out to catch soccer balls that went over the fence. Not many baseballs were hit over that left field fence, it was much further than the right field. If you lived in Trenton and were involved in sports, you sure knew all about Wetzel. Regards.

Ralph, I'm just a visitor to your side of town. That, and we didn't have a car till about 1963 so even when I played Cook AA ball, I had to bus it from the Fuld area.

I was born by the Trenton Transit yard in Wilbur and even Hetzel is pretty hidden.

And yes, I was embarrassed to ask my pal where Wetzel was.

....I did'nt mean to criticize, Skip, Wetzel Field was a big part of my life in those days and I was proud to be involved. I also have many nice things to say about Hetzel Field and all the other fine fields in the city. You must remember the old Cook Y, which was another nice place in town. Regards.

Ralph and Skip, I lived on the corner of Morris and Revere Ave. and had the pleasure of playing baseball with my sons there. My son Jeff was there every summer night watching the Schroths practice and was even asked to be there batboy. Even though it was falling apart what Trenton history it was. Do you remember Hetzel Field in North Trenton?

Wetzel Field and Franklin Park were
my fields of dreams...both about
3 blocks from our house.
Trenton was very good to us for
parks..and the parks still look nice when you drive by them.
I salute the Trenton Parks Department:)

Over on the North side of town we were at a loss for parks. JoeZ will remember this one.

Our rescue finally came from Ewing when they put in a mini-park one teter-totter and basketball court in a the end of "Little Olden Avenue" ... Little Olden was the other side of Extension Patio. Wedged in behind "Bounceland" and the Golf Range.

Baseball, the folks at Penn Fruit at the Brunswick Circle were nice enough to keep it mowed for us; a part of the former Dunn Field.
