School Lockers

School Lockers.
We had no school lockers in Franklin School which made sense
as we were in 1 class most of the day except for our time
spent at the Library, the Gym, or at Lunch. In Junior 4 we
had lockers and for some reason we all had Masterlocks if
I remember right..I think we had to buy them from the school
store. Same story over at Trenton High, all I remember was
Masterlocks. In Trenton High I shared the biggest locker
in the school with like 6 people. We took the locker because
it was strangely available and nobody stopped us, and it was
located on the second floor of the C building where we all
would hang before school.

My locker was in the rear of the main building by the photo club room. Pretty neat place out of the main flow so you could shoot the breeze when you had time.

Lunch, my favorite time of day. Coming originally from Notre Dame, the did have a good burger and an ice cream fountain. Trenton High did have one up on them with the (look I was raised Polish so I know it wasn't real or the best but) ... Veal Parm ... and I'd do "Moon Eyes" at the lunch lady and she would give me a double (I offered to pay) ...

Skip: I have to agree with you the burgers were good at ND and so was the ice cream fountain. St. Hedwig's had the best mac and cheese on Fridays. My mom got the recipe from one of the cooks she knew and passed it down, still make it today.

"Go stand in the CLOAK CLOSET .. no lockers but we had a spot for the vampires to hang cloaks.

JoeZ .... bread crumbs on it. It was the first time I had normal Mac & Cheese. Mom made it Irish with Munster and some other smelly cheese.

Skip, this one was made with crushed tomatoes and it was not baked but stove stirred and made with American White Cheese. Good.

I had to think that over. How did I miss that? Answer. I was a bag lunch/eat at the desk kid. All 8 long years at Saint Hedwig's. I may have begged and had lunch once or twice. Truth be told, there was no money for buying lunch.

But, I did get to stand alone, in the dark in the evil CLOAK CLOSET. Come to think of it, the nuns did wear cloaks.

Skip: I only ate there on Fridays for the mac and cheese, I went home everyday for lunch. Remember those soft pretzels they use to sell.

Does anyone wonder like I do why at Junior Two and at Trenton High, the boys had swimming IN THE NUDE!!!? I tell my kids and they don't believe me. I went to Jr 2 for 3 yrs and THS for another 3 yrs every year we swam NAKED. Surreal. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't live thru it! When did they end this practice? I know after we graduated in 69, the dress code changed. Students were allowed to wear jeans. Must be some misguided health regulation. The girls wore tank suits, but not the boys. I remember the girls shrieking thru the wall that separated the boys' pool from the girls' pool. Unreal...

Guys: Jr. 4 and swimming nude in the summer, went there and learned to swim, standing in those lines to get in. Mack, I started those smokes in 8th grade. Good old days.
