School Bus
School Bus
For many decades kids have taken a bus to school and this
was true of many Burg kids as well. But many Burg kids
like me never took a bus to school from K to 12.
Franklin School, Junior Four, and Trenton High were all
within walking distance of our house and for the few years
I attended Holy Cross School my Mom or Dad dropped us off:)

To, Notre Dame, I walked from the Korvettes area. Short version .. got into a scrap that I did NOT start and we both had to leave so ..
Ended up at Trenton High for the following years.
We took the B-Crosstown, that in the morning swung by the school for the one run. Getting home, you had to take a bus to town or walk to E. State Street and then get the S-Colonial home. I got that at the Broad Street Bank by the Bell Tell building.
The song by the Hollies "Bus Stop" has always had a special place in my heart. She took the T-Hiltonia and would flirt a bit out the window. "By August she was mine" ..
Thanks for the memories ..

Crosstown to school ... the driver, Ed, made us ruffians sit in the back so .... remember getting a paper "transfer too" ???
.... I'm with you Mac, I never saw a school bus in elementary or Junior 4. Our walk from Villa Park to Jr. 4 was really far. I did'nt even see them at Trenton High. I think in the 30s, kids that lived far from THS took the regular transit system to get to school.
We did, there was never a "yellow bus" in front of Trenton High. I graduated in 67' and we bought tokens.

My only experience with Buses
in my school days was for school trips ...or that Bus on Hamilton
Avenue near Trenton High that took you to Quakerbridge Mall..but thats another story LMAO:)
I took a bus near St. Hedwigs to get me to ND, most of the time, I walked home after school or caught a ride from a buddy. In my senior year I rode every morning with a classmate Sam Plumeri, the once Sheriff of Mercer County, saw a picture of him recently, looks the same. I remember those paper transfers too.
There were yellow school buses in 61 - 64. That's how the kids from Lawrence got to THS.
We moved from S. Clinto to Lawrence in '63. Elmer N. Smith owned the fleet of Thomas school buses used by Lawrence. He lived on out on Gedney Road.
IIRC, during those years the kids from Junior 3 took Trenton Transit buses and they may have had flasher lights on them.
