509 Hamilton Avenue, The Burg

509 Hamilton Avenue, The Burg
Once upon a time in the 1950s and 1960s this was Harry
Smith's Five and Ten Store. Next Door In my Burg day was of
course Storky's. A very well known place for folks
who went to Trenton High in my days long ago:)

Noel Vento adds...
Back in the day when Smitty's 5 & 10 was here, next door
Storky's was Gerty's. She used to sell ice cream cones.
A hand dipped scoop of ice cream, the size of a grapefruit,
on a soft cone, was 10 cents. Sugar or hard cones were 12
cents. My mother would send us there on hot summer nights
to get ice cream for all of us. My mother always wanted any
kind of fruit ice cream. Peach, Rasberry or strawberry.
Sometimes they had cherry vanilla. The flavors were listed
on a chaulk board. Vanilla fudge was one of my favorites.
This had to be in the late 50's. Way before Philip Arthurs,
The Parfait House, Carvel's, DQ or Baskin Robbins. Ice
cream NEVER tasted so good!
