Theresa Sbarro

Theresa Sbarro
Wife of Canio (Tony) Sbarro.

Theresa was born in Montemelone, Italy and later, immigrated to
Trenton, New Jersey with her husband Canio. She brought with her
a deep background of Italian family customs that helped Theresa
start a new life with her husband in a different country. Theresa
and Canio were true trailblazers. When they arrived in America in
1927 , they were in their late twenties and had a dream of opening
a restaurant which they quickly did. That is when they created
America's first "Italian" Hot Dog. It was served on a Torpedo Roll.
Theresa was the backbone that allowed Tony to develop their vision
and operate their dream of an Italian restaurant. Their home was an
apartment above the structure of their business. The close proximity
to the business provided them the ability to grow and operate at
their highest potential. Theresa was a beautiful, wise woman. Each
and every day Theresa was dressed beautifully from head to toe with
exquisite jewelry. She wore a smile from ear to ear. Theresa loved
her business and the customers. She did not view the patrons only as
customers but also as her friends and an extension of family in this
new place (America). People loved coming to the Casino because it
combined delicious eating at a reasonable price. But more than that,
they found Theresa to be a loving and caring person who was always
ready to have an interesting conversation and share her insight about
life. This started relationships that blossomed. The end result was
that the Casino Restaurant became the neighborhood restaurant where
all would look forward to coming.
