A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Sorry to wait till this post was stale but the Burg had many small dairy companies that delivered milk to the doorstep every day or every other day.
You want four quarts? How about a pint of cream? Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays? Just leave the empties on the front porch and bring in the new bottles. You paid your tab every week.
Our milkman was "Red" Helmlinger, who had his bottling plant out on 147 Ashmore Ave.
I found one of his milk bottles on the web: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=300370057563
IIRC, most of the Burg milkmen used Divco milk trucks, http://www.divco.org.
SJBill, I just came across this post of yours. My grandfather Martin Helmlinger owned Helmlinger Dairy and Son's back in the 1930/1940's in Jersey. I'm curious if this is the man you are referring to as "Red" and if so why he was called that?
Thank you, Tracy Helmlinger Gruner
