Downtown Trenton at Christmas

Downtown Trenton at Christmas
Burg area folks before my Burg day may remember this.
This must have been a great place in its day.
I worked Downtown in the early 1980's, long after its
Glory Days. I remember Kresges, Blimpies, Dunhams,
Ginos (Which became Roy Rogers)...The "Commons" as
it was called was a bunch of Stores and Shops with
the street blocked off for traffic and used only for
walking. This idea did not work as folks like their
cars.

Thanks Mack. Like much of my memories of the Fifties, it's in black and white!

Hi Mack: Now that's the way I remember downtown Trenton. That looks like State and Broad, with a lot of people waitng for the bus and stores doing a lot of business. It's all lighted up with bumper to bumper traffic on what looks like State Street. It reminds me of the time I was a kid selling the Times downtown for two cents each. Regards

I remember the smell of Planters Peanuts and I also remember kids painting the store windows and when the stores were open of Thursday nights, we drove the cops nuts riding around and around chasing the girls. A good memory.

I remember a makeshift booth on State Street across from Planter's. I helped man the booth for an hour collecting for the Salvation Army, I think. There was a record player in there and I played The Monkees, "I'm a Believer." Now there's a Christmas song!

Great Picture Mack, I may use it if you don't mind. I remember shopping downtown with my mother at Christmas time. Brings back memories. Still smell old Mr. Peanuts store and those hotdogs at Woolworths.

I used to love going in town during the Christmas season. Voorhees was always done up well inside, but my favorite was the store on Broad and Front. They always had the best window decorations, a Christmas scene with animated characters. We would go in town just to window watch.

To Noel - I spent one or two Christmases working that little booth for donations, myself. I believe it was sponsored by the THS Interact Club. We also got in a little trouble for bringing and playing our own (non-Christmas) records. Good times.
