Junior Four Main Entrance
Junior Four Main Entrance
Junior Four is a magnificent building and my Alma Mater
and in my heart forever. As of now this remains unthreatened
with being torn down. Hey, this is another opportunity to
make a comment about another of my Alma Maters: Don't Tear Down
Trenton High !. Anyway back to Junior Four Main Entrance...
I might have went through this a few times in all my years
attending Junior Four, but mostly I came through the doors
closest to Dayton Street and Grand Street. I Remember how we
would arrive around ten after eight and loiter around the
doors and yap until they opened the doors at eight thirty.
When we were walking in many cigarettes were put out and
books grabbed. I don't remember there being much litter
on the school grounds so whoever was cleaning the school
grounds on a daily basis did a fine job. Indeed the school
grounds still look nice today all these years later:)

The bay windows above the main entrance were located in the libary, and of course they were kept open during warmer weather. I'm not exactly sure who the perps might have been ;-) but in the late 50s, some kids were known to exit the library from the window on the right, stand on the ledge and re-enter the library by the window on the left. Mrs. Tilton, the librarian, never caught on.
I attended Junior 4 in 1932,33 and 34. Can you imagine that is 75 years ago and the school looks the same. It was a very long walk from Villa Park and we allways found something interesting along the way to keep us out of trouble. Miss Grace Dunn was one of the nicest persons I ever knew and she was very involved in every studen. I believe all the kids walked to school, I don"t remember seeing any school buses.
I too am an alumni of Jr. 4 ('56-'59) and think the building is still really beautiful. It would be a shame if they tore down THS. It's another classic.
Thinking back, of my days at Washington school, Jr 4 and TCHS. Junior 4 was the best "56-59" of my school years. You new just about everyone that was attending it because of it's size. That's when we first came to know each other Bob.
I'll never forget algebra class with Ms. Wiess, who later became the principal. Those of you that where in her class know what I'm referring to. It's nice to see some things have not changed in so many years.
Vince,
Waterboarding is nothing compared to Ms. Weiss's algebra class.

Great school, loved it their, had alot of great times. My fondest memories though, was playing intramural basketball early in the morning hours, just before classes started during those fall months.
Between 1973-1975 we won two championships within the school. My seventh and eighth grade class dominated the school back then in intramural basketball.
