Wetzel Field in Late Summer, Villa Park
This is a new picture taken a few days ago:)
Can we ever have enough pictures of Wetzel Field?
Of course not:))
A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Hi Mack; When we were kids, we chased balls that were hit over the fence on Morris and Bert Ave. The teams payed us 25 cents for each ball. We also watched cars while the people were at the games. They thought that was a good deal for 10 cents. There was no parking lot, you had to park wherever you could find a spot. In those days we thought of many ways to earn a few bucks.
I might add Mack, Sundays were the big days at Wetzel Field. That was when the Central Jersey League played. Our team was the Trenton Cadets, which had all the old timer stars like Bucky Walters, Gerald Radice, Ernie Birchinoff, Vince Ricotta and Hank Lusanski. They drew big crowds from all over Central Jersey. The Cadets were sponsored by Spike Rice.
On Saturdays the City League played. During the week nights the Industrial, Twilight and school teams took over. They are the leagues I played in. The big benefactor in all this was Bartolini's Bar, across the street on Chambers & Morris. On the other corner was Frank Agabiti's Pool Room.
Hi Ralph:)
Remember when the balls would
get caught in the screen above
home plate. An occasional backwards
high pop-up that hovered would do
this. We often got it back by throwing a glove up at the net:)
Thanks for the information about
the baseball players that played
here:)
