The Rocket at Franklin Park, Franklin Park

The Rocket at Franklin Park, Franklin Park
Could there be anything cooler than this in my
Burg kid days long ago? Of course not!
And they had the Monkey Bars and a Water Fountain
near the big rock. And enough open space to have a
few baseball/whiffleball /football games going on.

Hi Mack: I also spent many days in Franklin Park with my beautiful wife Helen when she lived on Howell St. That was just about all we could do in those depression days. I remember the water fountain, it was a very nice area.

Hi Ralph:)
Amen to this:)
As someone who lived all of my
Burg life about a half a minute
walk from that house on Howell
Street I can say the area was
still great for many many years:)
Was the Camera Shop on Dayton
and Howell Street there in the
1930s? It was a one story green
building with a stucco exterior?
It got torn down in the 80s.
Was Jim & Mary's Corner Deli
on Remsen and Woodland across
from Franklin Park there in the
1930s? That was a Kerns Soda
and candy place for us:)

I'm not sure about the places you mentioned Mack. I lived on Franklin St. at the time and was around the Park on occasions. I do recall seeing basketball games at Franklin School gym. I'm surprised that an elementary school would have a gym. They had a track around the gym where you could watch the games.

Oh yes , above the court on the
second floor.
We ate lunch in the school gym
and if we got too loud, the
Principal Mr John Gaug would appear
on this second floor and look down
on us and tell us to get our act
together:)
