A View of Trenton High Football Field From Quinton Avenue

A View of Trenton High Football Field From Quinton Avenue.
Though the gate. Oh by the way, Don't Tear Down Trenton High.
(Had to get that in!)
Mister Jennings and Mister Quinn had the absurd idea that we
must run around the track at Trenton High 4 times on hot days.
And the subject was not up for discussion or debate in days
long ago:)

I can,t help remembering this field before Trenton High was built. It was called Chambers Field and it was used by the Bailly & Barrum Circus.A big event also, was planes flying overhead dropping bars of Baby Ruth candy. I bet there are not many who remember that. Have a nice day and be well. Regards, Ralph

Ralph,

My gradfather, Wiiliam C. Yard was a great fan of the circus. He used to travel to various cities in the Norteast to catch performances. He lived on Culbertson Ave. For a number of years he kept a daily journal and it so happened I ended up in possession of his journal from 1930. He mentions visiting a traveling circus (Spark's Circus) that set up tent at this exact location in May 1930. He was also a big fan of the Philadelphia A's

Hi Stephan: Your grandfather must have seen the Philadelphia A's when I enjoyed them. Old Connie Mack, the owner and manager was a real gentleman, all dressed up in a suit and tie in the dugout. I'll never forget the first game I saw them. The New York Yankees beat them 25 to 2. Tony Lazzeri hit 3 home runs and a triple, he batted in 12 runs. But the A's had one of the best.

Hi Ralph:)
Here is what I found on the
net about that game:

May 24, 1936 - Yankees 2B Tony Lazzeri sets several slugging marks with two grand slams‚ a 3rd HR‚ and a triple for 15 total bases in a 25-2 slaughter of the Athletics at Shibe Park. Tony has now hit 7 HRs in 4 games and 6 in three games. He also sets a new AL mark of 11 RBIs in one game. DiMaggio has three hits‚ including a homer‚ and Frank Crosetti also goes deep as a league mark is tied when 9 Yanks score two or more runs. Another ML record is tied when Ben Chapman draws 5 walks as the Yanks are handed 16 bases on balls. Gehrig exits early and is replaced by his favorite sub‚ Jack Saltzgaver. Monte Pearson is the winner over George Turbeville in the laugher.

Thanks a lot Mack, that was some game, Lazzeri batted in 15 runs, I thought 12. Those were the days. a lot of grief though when the Dodgers left Brooklyn, the Braves left Boston and the A's left Philly. That's my trouble, at my age I live too much in the past. Thanks again.

My only fond memories of this field is when I played football...1960-62 head coach Pat Clemens, line coach Bob Callahan and we beat our rival Trenton Catholic 60-7 in my senior year. It was a great day!
