320 Hudson Street, The Burg
Once upon a time this was Sam Mazzilli's Grocery
Store according to the listing in my records but
it was known as Mazzilli's Market in my Burg day
(and manybe then too). This is a new picture of this
taken a few days ago:)

mozerella barrels full of water with fresh cheese.
All the pasta was loose, not wrapped in packages like
they are now. The proscutto was the best you can buy
and the provolone was imported frm Italy. We also were
able to buy fresh scungelli(snails). I sure miss all

I am surprised that you did not mention that this store was originally Mazzilli's and Battisti.
As far as I know they were not related to me.

After I posted this comment, I remembered another grocery store across the street from Mazzili's. On the same side towards Mott Street? It always had cheese in the window and across the street was Thacher's. Do you remember the name?
Hi Joe: Your right again. The store was called Mazzilli's and Battisti's. I think Battisti moved out to Hamilton Township. I remember there werea lot of other stores in the neighborhood, in fact we had our own store at 123 Mott St. The alley next to 123 was called New St. The other Chiacchio family lived there,Jimmy and his brothers. Jimmy was a shoemaker.

dad always stopped on the way home
from John A. Roebling's and bought
provolone and other Italian goodies there, Carlo
Hi Joe; Maybe you remember that one of Jimmy Chiacchio brothers took over Bodner's Service Station on So. Clinton Ave. I think he was in the motorcycle business.
