273 Morris Avenue, The Burg

273 Morris Avenue, The Burg
Once upon a time this wss the Chambersburg Legend known
as Crecco's Bar and Grill. Not one person I knew ever called
it that, it was just "Crecco's". This was part of my first
paper route back in the 1970s and the folks at Crecco's were
nice and tipped well. Hey Thanks Crecco's:)

Mack, loved that place for dinner. Great clams casino and Rosemary's Aunt Angie made all the salads for Crecco's in the kitchen.

Here's something I wrote about Sam Naples building. It applies here also.

I knew Sammy Naples and he was loved in Chambersburg, he was always at one of the burgs restaurants. He was into politics and would hold meetings with folks. If I remember right, he would nightly be at Lou Greco's or Roman Hall or Candy place The Cent'Anni's. I forget, it's been so long ago. It was told to me that if you wanted to run in politics you needed Sammy's blessing.

Sammy had a finished basement, with a full bar. He lived on Hollywood Avenue., behind the Penn Station. On his basement walls were autographed pictures of Sammy with Senators, Governors and Presidents.

Also Badges and credentials from the many Democratic National Conventions, I believe he was a delegate from Mercer County. His family has a treasure with those pictures.

Also, sometime is the 1960's the first house I sold was on Tyler Street and the owners were Naples Family

For those that might not know, Lou Crecco's was just one of the popular meeting places for state and local politicians to met. Mostly late at night.

Many of politicians got their first taste of real Italian food here and became lifelong fans of Chambersburg. Once again to coin that old phrase, anyone that wanted to run for office, needed the backing of Trenton folks that had political power, like Sammy Naples and others. Chambersburg, nightly was host to folks from all over, North Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.

This is another place my Dad and therefore I frequented.I remember old man Crecco and met his son who lived at the Jockey Club in Miami when I lived there. My dad got his secretary (Lola) the bar tending job at Crecco's when he retired. It's a real shame that Crecco's no longer exists.

Crecco's was just a few blocks from where i lived on Roebling Ave. My Dad was good friends with Lou also. I remember how Lou would publish special birthdays wishes to many of his clientele in the local news papers.
