A Rear View of Washington School, The Burg

A Rear View of Washington School, The Burg
This picture taken yesterday as I was passing by:)

UPDATE: Carlo adds
Hi Mack, more memories. I was in the first kindergarten
class when the new Washington School opened. I remember
how modern and new it looked compared to the old frame
Washington School I attended the first couple of months until
the new one opened. The old school was located down the
street on Emory and Whittaker. That lot then became and
still is a small park and playground. Carlo :)

Thank You Carlo. To me Washington School still looks modern
as I attended Franklin School...I don't know if its those
metal letters or shape of the building..something about it.

Hi Carlo:)
I will add that comment to the
post:)
To a kid who attended Franklin
School, Washington School STILL
looks "modern"..something about
it.. maybe those metal letters
saying the school name or the shape
of the school..I cant put my finger
on it.
Also as someone who must have
passed by the playground untold
thousands of times but was not
from right there, when I first
started hanging around there I
called it "the Park" and was told
NO, its the "the Playground":)

YES, the old washington school lot is "the playground"...not "the park".

"the park" refers to chestnut park.

when did the old washington school close...in the 40s, 50s, 60s????

we moved to the burg in '69. the playground was there at that time.

The old school must have closed in the 40's. I started kinderten in 1949 and my sister started 2 years before me.

I started kindergarten in Sept 1939
at the old school and after a couple of months we transfered to the new Washington School. I assume the old school was torn down in the very early 40's if not 1940 itself. Carlo
