This ship was built to replace the SS Andrea Doria which was a
beautiful ship that sank on July 25, 1956 off he coast of
Massachusettes. The Leonardo Da Vinci was a passenger ship for
a while then became a cruise ship until it service ended in
1978.

My mother took the Leonardo Da Vinci to Italy to visit our relatives in Casandrino near Naples. Years later my wife Helen and I visited them but we flew over. While there we met relatives of Landofi's. My mother went over with DeAngelo whose brother built Del Rio Restaurant on Hamilton Ave. On my mother's return trip they ran into a bad hurricane. I think this was in 1964 or 65.
