Ahhh, what a class old structure!
In the corner of the building shown, it was Mrs. Teresa Rich (first grade), Mrs. Emma Mohr (forth grade) and the auditorium on third floor.

A lot of kids cracked their heads open on the monkey bars just out of view to the left.

I never got to the dormer windows up in the attack -- had no idea how to get there.

There was a store room down in the basement past the entrance to the furnace room. Back in the day, the two coal furnaces were contantly tended by Mr. Hutchinson, the janitor (about 1952). I loved seeing the blue flames of the coal in the fireboxes. Burning coal had a smell all its own.

There were two "Mr. Hutchinsons" Brothers that were first rate custodians that worked in district many many years. I was honored to call both of them my friends.

I remember the coal furnaces
of Franklin School.. I think they
switched over in the 70s to something else.

Of course, many homes in late 40's and early 50's had coal heat. Back then we had garbage pickup days and ash pick up one day a week.
