Hopscotch and Summer Storms
A Hopscotch game chalk drawing on the sidewalk was a
familiar part of the ole Burg. Once there was a little girl
around the corner who had just drew a hopscotch game
on the sidewalk (and she was good at it).
But a summer storm came along and it was raining cats and
dogs...and I still remember her sad face as she stood
under her porch awning watching it being washed away.
Epic tragedy in da Burg :)))
But it must be remembered that in the days before everyone
had air conditioning a summer storm on a hot july or
august day was often a welcome thing as it cooled and cleaned
the air for a time:)

Don't dare forget jump-rope and jacks!
...and roller skating...don't forget your skate key.
As we got in our teens I remember pitching nickels against the wall. In my younger days it was handball and wiffle ball at the Boys Club on Beatty St.
Hide and seek, dodge ball, pick up sticks, kick the can, marbles, water balloon fights. How about tossing baseball cards against a neighbors steps. Closest to the step won but standzies took all. Wish I had those cards today.
Riding our bikes up and down the sidewalks with baseball cards in the spokes.
Freeze tag.
Climbing the street sign poles on the corner ("Give me a boost!")
And splashing barefoot through the rushing gutters during/after a storm (as long as there was no lightning)!
...and not just jump rope - DOUBLE DUTCH!
