Campi's 634 Whittaker Avenue, The Burg
Campi's, 634 Whittaker Avenue, The Burg.
I am so happy I was able to find this picture:)
One thing I remember about going to the Store in the Burg.
It could be Campi's or Acme on Roebling Avenue or some
place else..
You go into the store to get something for your Ma and
there is an Old Lady or Old Man there that says
"hey I remember you when you were THIS big"...and
you are trying to be nice but they are talking about
you when you were like 2 and you can't remember
this person's name.
Then they tell you their name.
Then you find out they know somebody from your
family..."your uncle Jimmy married my brothers daughter
and or went out with my brothers daughter.
Then they might say things about Jimmy you
did'nt know like "Jimmy used to throw quarters at the horses
he bet on when they were losing"
You don't care what Jimmy did but find this highly
amusing. This was our Burg.
Remember?
UPDATE: Barbara says don't forget Risoldi's and she is right:)

Don't forget Risoldi's Thriftway on Liberty near Revere. Everybody knew everybody in the Burg, so if you did something wrong, by the time you got home Mom was waiting with the big wooden spoon to paddle your butt.
LOVE this comment Barb:)
So true:)
when i was a kid in the 70s, i was told that campi's was previously known as "massi's"...before my time. actually, i remember seeing
"massi's" written on the front stoop in tile. i think it was eventually removed or covered over. campi's was like happy's...only in a different part of the burg... they had EVERYTHING!...except comic books...dang it!
