1095 South Broad Street, The Burg. Appraisal Exchange.
Edwin MacNicoll my Dad owned this for many years.
I loved working here with my family and miss the place.
There were a bunch of folks who came around here
and were part of the place as was my Dads fantastic
CD collection. I would often arrive from doing stuff out
on the road in the late afteroon or early evening.
Just as a local radio station played Sinatra for an hour.
My father was President of the National Association of
Independent Fee Appraisers. The largest and one of the
most important Appraisal organisations in the USA.
He wrote the first Historic Appraising course.
We are now out in Mercerville.
But many many great working days were spend here
in this building in The Burg:)

I miss not being able to stop by, have a cigarette with Joe the Whip, grab a coke at Marazzos, listen to dads CD's, hang out with mom, get words of wisdom from dad (my historic mentor) about appraisals and the crazy people we had to deal with, get a ticket for overparking at the stupid parking meter across the street, and I miss David. Just seeing the picture makes me nostalgic.
OK one Joe the Whip joke
for ole times:
"Have you heard the latest?
its not out yet!"
Joe the Whip loved
Al Jolson,remember?
I remember being greeted by
him warmly when he would say
this:
"Oh, leave the door open and
anyone walks in here"
I miss working with Dave.
We were synchronized as to when
to advise each other on various
work issues, when to both work
at full speed, and when to
have fun. What great brothers
Dave and Ed III are:)
And at times Joe Kagel would
be there too.
When I walked in Joe used to say, "I didn't know you let women in here". And I'd say I'm workin' the corner and it's cold outside, Ed lets me come in to warm up by bussombas". That always made him laugh.
My dad, Charles ("Chuch" or "Challey") Chell was a good friend of Edwin ("Eddie") MacNicoll. They met when Eddie was working part-time at Yellow Cab in the late 50s or early 60s and remained friends forever after. My parents bought their house in Hamilton in 1967, and Eddie was their realtor. When I bought my first home in 1982, we also worked with Eddie. --Linda Chell Rooney
