Storkys, Hamilton Avenue, The Burg

Storkys, Hamilton Avenue, The Burg
From the Local Trenton Paper

Local Legends
In this edition of our school newspaper, The Spectator, we are
proud to introduce our very first ''Local Legend'', Dick Storcella,
otherwise known as ''Storky''. The lovable character from the
''shop around the corner,'' who, in one way or another, has been a
part of our student lives for quite some time now, not to mention
the student lives of even some of our parents.
For those of you who are not familiar with ''Storky,'' he has been
running the '' corner store '' for thirty-seven years now, in other
words, since nineteen- fifty-three (1953). He has been that ''@''
place for many students, and even generations, for quite some time
now, giving quality and friendly service to all who enter his world.
Those who know Storky, know him as a great person, ''a kid in a
grown up'', a jokester, and above all, humble and proud of his
roots. A proud graduate of Trenton Central High School, he remembers
his high school as vividly as ever. ''I graduated in 1947, and the
only difference I would think of is, that, back then, the percentage
of African Americans was that of only ten percent, but that was soon
to change. The students back then were like those today, vivacious
and most importantly kids, Trenton High kids.'' One can almost be
certain that when you walk into Storkys' you will hear the ''TCHS
School Song'' being sung by the one and only, Storky. :)
After graduating from Trenton Central High School, Mr. Storcella
walked into a store with the mere intention of buying a newspaper.
Walking into the store he found a fed up owner packing up and
getting ready to go, Mr. Storcella, seeing this as an opportunity,
began negotiating. It only took a conversation and an offer of one
thousand dollars ($1,000) for him to receive what has been a
milestone in his life. The very next day, eager to embark in the
business world, ...''Storky's Corner Store '' opened for the very
first time. When asked - what has been your greatest accomplishment
? - Storky answered, ''I can't say 'my greatest accomplishment'
because it has been both my wife's and mine, and that would have
to be having five great kids, of whom I am surely proud.''
Before concluding our interview, Storky made it clear that he felt
as though Trenton High students were his own. And, that one of his
greatest joys is to hear from the students how their mother/father
and even grandparents have been through his store, as students,
and now, they were to continue the tradition. Bringing this
article to a close we can say that, in the year two thousand, on
Hamilton Avenue, in Trenton New Jersey, we have a little corner
stone of history in that traditional-style family ''
corner store '' - STORKY's.

I spent a lot of time in Storky's when I worked at Circle F. That would be a typical lunch stop. That, or for a sit down it was Choquette's next door.
