The New Colonial Bakery, Hudson Street, The Burg.

The New Colonial Bakery, Hudson Street, The Burg.
Once upon a time this was The New Colonial Bakery. The
sign still says it is but it was purchased by Italian
People's Bakery years ago.
For the purposes of this blog its really cool they left
the exterior as it was:)

The New Colonial Bakery had a credit account with my Father's gas station...Fabian's Gulf around the corner on Swan and Whittaker. Nick, Ace Capasso and the rest of the drivers would fill up and leave a couple dozen hot rolls, my father Charlie Fabiano always had a stick of butter in the little fridge just for the bread from NC

I worked here for two months back in 1979 packing rolls. We would put the rolls for markets in plastic bags, and the one's for restaurants in paper bags. We had a good time.

I had just come back from Wyoming and at 16 I already had my drivers license. For some special deliveries they would send me out in an old green delivery truck. The funny thing was, you had to stand up to drive it.

I worked there in the early 70s with nick and Tommy. I remember the old Italian lady’s from the neighborhood and ask for day old bread. They used it to make their meat balls.
