I rememeber Arthur Calderone's
Barber Shop. The little grey building with a barber pole,
near Liberty and Chambers. Thats gone now as they tore
that and a bunch of rows down to build a CVS on that
corner. I remember the corner home had a big yard with
a little fence This was 3 blocks from my house.

Jimmy Szathmary gave me my first haircut across the
street at 812 S. Clinton. I sat in the booster seat
that bridged the arms of the barber chair. I loved
the hydraulic lift and the sound as it went down.
Jimmy was a wonderful guy with a wonderful accent.

things don't change.

Frank Majofsky of 1060 S Broad also hand made Violins,
Fishing Poles and elaborate fishing Lures. My dad went
to him until he retired, he then went to "Mad Dan" the
Barber on Broad next door to the Widows Watch. Dad said
he gave you a haircut in under 3 minutes...looked
like it too.

Barb P..Joey always stood outside his barber shop on
Warren in the Summer with his white barber coat open
showing his body-builder chest. We were good friends,
I helped him and his wife, Marie Barbero, move into
their house in Ewing a long time ag

Mack: I wonder how many of those small shops are left around the Burg or in South Trenton.
There was a barber shop on Hudson street 300 block "Dons Barber shop" I remember he had a strange voice.
My barber was Tullio's, located on Chambers St one door past Morris ave. He gave a great hair cut.I remember as a young boy when my hair cut was just about done and after shaving my neck and (hot shaving cream) side burns, he would then ask, Hopalong Cassidy or Brylcreem as the final touch.
Gezz, barbers back in the day wore nice white starched short sleeve shirt/jackets and cut your hair with just scissors. They really took pride in their profession.I moved from the Burg in "62" and unfortunately, Tullio like many other good Burg barbers shut down during the early 70's when long hair became the fashion and men where getting fewer hair cuts. Today folks they want to be called hair stylists and charge big bucks.
Frank Majofsky was my Uncle, my Mothers brother, he also raised Canarys,,,,I recently both one of his violins on ebay!!!
