Loved the Roman Hall! My great grandfather was one of the founders. I went there with my father in 1974, and they just kept bringing food when they found out who he was. One of the last times I went I asked if they could make strascinati, which was not on the menu. They indicated they could - turned out that the chef called his mother to find out how! It was very sweet.

Say it isn't so. Off track a bit but since this happened today I begs follow up.

Did Italian Peoples Bakery change the name?

I saw a truck today and it was the old familiar logo and there was that "feel good" moment. Then I looked twice since there was something not right and it said ..

"The Peoples Bakery" and the word Italian was missing. I thought this was body work gone awry till I looked at the rear doors if the box truck and it had the same thing.

I know they sold off many of the stores last year and one of the new owners said they were just hanging in there but this is indeed sad if it's true. I am just not ready for too much change.

Hi Jeff & Skip.

Love your Roman Hall Story Jeff:)

If Italian Peoples Bakery removes
Italian from its name, that would really really suck. I see nothing in the paper or the net about it
and the last time I was by the Butler Street store 3 days it was
still Italian Peoples Bakery.

Mack, I hope it isn't but when I saw the back doors with the word "Italian" missing. First it was the passenger cab door that caught my eye.

This did not look like an old truck that someone bought and kind of "blotched" out the name.

First thing I did was check the web site and that hasn't changed.

There have been changes in the last two years. I used to love to drive down for the "specials" as in buy a dozen half-torps and get 6 free. When those were no longer offered I spoke to someone I got to know and they said their boss had to buy the franchise to keep it going so they can't afford to keep up with the specials now.

Change comes, sadly despite our best efforts.

Why a half-torp tastes better than a full size roll I will never know?

Probably our most frequented family restaurant growing up...My Uncle Jules Fabiano lived on the corner of Butler and Chestnut and we would all walk down following his electric wheelchair...Does anyone remember the door on the corner of the building in the early 60's...It was on the corner of Butler and Whittaker...I remember a green screen door...booths and ceiling fans...some please confirm this memory! Loved having dinner than going into the bar and playing the jukebox and upsetting all the old guys when I played Queen.
