The Roebling Factory Complex, The Burg
This picture is from the 1970s. Its South Clinton Avenue.
How many of us Burg area folks drove past this on the way
to the Greenwood and Barlow Street Circles? We would often
pass this as my Ma would take the Trenton Freeway to go to
My Aunt Pat & Uncle Arts House in Ewing. Remember seeing those
big fuel storage tanks along the Trenton Freeway?
I could go on. But its amazing how many memories can be
conjured up by even one picture:)

FYI, The Large tanks along the Freeway stored gas made from coal, before natural gas . They were owned by PSE&G. The coal came up in rail cars, which were stored across the way in "coalport yard".
From my bedroom window, I could just glimpse the tanks.
They were the gas that lit our stoves and heat and such and the best part was watching them go up and down.
As they filled the cylinder would rise inside the framework and become visible. As the gas was used the cylinder would go down and just the frame would be visible.
When you are kid, just a comment from my dad .... a knowing "Hmmmm the tanks are looking low" ... during a cold spell would have us running up and checking how full they were. No gas meant no stove and that meant no hot dinner.
The other scary thing was when my brother in law who worked for PSE&G made comment on how "if they blow this neighborhood is gone". In theory, they would have taken out everything just about to Olden Avenue.
